During the EU–Western Balkans Summit in early June, vessel movements in Tivat and Porto Montenegro may be significantly restricted. Crews should check arrivals, departures and alternatives in advance.

Porto Montenegro / Tivat

The EU–Western Balkans Summit is officially scheduled to take place in Tivat on 5 June 2026, according to the European Council. For crews planning to call at Porto Montenegro or the Bay of Kotor in early June, an additional navigation alert is particularly relevant: BWA Yachting has warned of restrictions within the Tivat aquatorium from 3 to 6 June.

According to the alert, vessel arrivals and departures in the affected area may not be permitted during this period. On 5 June, the main summit day, Porto Montenegro Marina is expected to be closed to the public, with vessel movements inside the marina restricted.

For crews, this is mainly a planning issue. Anyone intending to call at Tivat, Porto Montenegro or the wider Bay of Kotor between 3 and 6 June should check the current status with the marina, a local agent or the port authority before finalising the itinerary. This is especially relevant for arrivals, departures, bunkering, crew changes and berth reservations.

What crews should know

This is a time-sensitive notice. The summit itself is officially confirmed; the specific maritime restrictions currently come from a BWA Yachting navigation alert. Before making itinerary decisions, crews should check whether an official port, marina or authority notice has also been published.

The key date is 5 June. If access to Porto Montenegro Marina is restricted on that day, even short calls, technical stops or planned crew changes may be affected.

What to check now

  • Is your arrival or departure planned between 3 and 6 June?
  • Do you have a confirmed reservation in Porto Montenegro?
  • Has the marina published current access or movement restrictions?
  • Is there an official port or authority notice?
  • Which alternatives in the Bay of Kotor are suitable if plans need to change?

In short

Crews planning Montenegro in early June should not treat Tivat or Porto Montenegro as a spontaneous stop. The EU–Western Balkans Summit is officially confirmed for 5 June in Tivat; according to BWA Yachting, vessel movements around Porto Montenegro may be significantly restricted from 3 to 6 June. Check the latest status directly with the marina, port authority or a local agent before departure.
